An important note!
Many people are afraid of learning how to read notes, and by doing so are closing themselves off to a world of music. It is true that you can learn to play and write music with out knowing how to read notes, but notes are a language. The whole world uses them to communicate music. Learning how to read notes will allow you to "speak" this language, and expose yourself to music from all over the world.
The SOUND Have two major components: PITCH and DURATION
Pitch Notation of sound

Treble Clef - Curves around the second line of the staff in order to define the location of the G note. This key is used for many instruments, including guitar, flute, trumpet, and most harmonicas.

Bass Clef - Curves around the fourth line of the staff in order to define the location of the the low F note. This key is used for instruments of low pitch, such as bass guitar, tuba, cello, and bass harmonica.

To represent the duration of a sound one uses changes the shape of the note.
